Text types: conversations

Language functions:

Formulaic expressions (get attention): Excuse me.

Interrogative adverbs (prices): How much is the watch, please?

General determiners (quantities): They’re ten dollars each.

Vocabulary:

The first period  Part A and B

Objectives:

To introduce pupils to the numbers from1 to 100.

Master the pronunciation and spelling of the words.

Introduce “dollars” and “$”.

Learning Targets:

To obtain and provide objects and information in simple classroom situation and through activities such as interactive games and role-play

Teaching important point:

Numbers 1 to 100

New words: a camera, a watch, a wallet, a purse, a photo frame

          Crayons, shoes, dollars, and $.

Introduce “dollars” and “$”.

Teaching difficult point:

Make the difference between sixteen and sixty etc

The pronunciation of the new words

Ⅱ.Presentation

  1. Introduce the new words.

  T: Look, I have the bag today. Oh, It’s too heavy, who can help me to take it?

  T: Is it heavy?

  T: Ok. Do you want to know what’s in it?

  To pupils: Do you want to know what’s in it?

  Take out the goods one by one to show Ss.

 Introduce the goods one by one, read the goods and have pupils read after you. At the same time check their pronunciation.

2. Checking Ss’ understanding.

Have a volunteer show the cards of the goods and have pupils say the words out.

Have a volunteer do some actions and have others say the words

Check their understanding and pronunciation.

3. Introduce “dollars” and “$”. (5min)

   T: There are so many goods here, which one do you like best?

   Have pupils answer the questions and give the reason.

   T: I like this watch best. I bought it in Hong Kong. Please guess: how much is it?

   Have pupils guess the price of the watch…

   T: Ok, it’s 64 dollars. Do you know “dollars”?

   Introduce the dollars in Hong Kong. Show the pictures of dollars. Have them say how much the money is.

Put the dollars together and ask: how much is it? Have pupils count the money and give you the correct answer.

   Have pupils know the 100 dollars = $ 100

  4. Introduce the How much questions .

  1) Explain that we use “it’s” because the object in the how much question is singular.

Show the target language1: A: Excuse me .How much    is the watch, please ?

                            B: It’s sixty-four dollars.              

    Show the target language on the board.

    Have students works in pairs to  act Sally and the prefect .

    Put the flash cards of the new vocabulary items on the board.

  Write prices next to the cards.

    Have students make their own conversation and show it in the class.

Show the target language2:  A: How much are the crayons, please?

                            B: They’re thirty-nine dollars.

    Show the target language on the board.

Have students works in pairs to act Sally and the prefect.

    Put the flash cards of the new vocabulary items on the board.

    Write prices next to the cards.

Ⅳ. Production.

1. Give Ss a task:

  Buy some gifts for your friend or your parents.

2. Encourage pupils make their own conversations with the new words.

3. Have students work in groups.

Invite  four  or  five

pupils to come to the front of the class. One pupil acts the stallholder and marks the prices of the items on the cards. The others are customers.

  4. Check their pronunciation and understanding.

 

 Ss make their own conversations and show them in class.

 

通过学习,学生已熟练掌握对物品价格提问的句型。在此基础上,让学生根据已学的对话,放入真实语境,自选物品,自定价格来生成新的对话,完成任务。
